Most good panels will serve you well for decades. These are the differences that matter, and what the terms on the datasheets mean.
N-type is the newer cell technology. It loses less output as it ages and on hot days, so most of our range is now N-type. P-type panels still perform well and can cost less on large commercial roofs.
TOPCon is the most common N-type design today. Back-contact panels, such as AIKO's Neostar range, move the wiring to the back of each cell for a cleaner look and a little more power from the same roof space.
Double-glass panels have glass on both faces, which makes them tougher and slower to age. Bifacial panels also collect light reflected onto their back, which helps most on tilt frames and light-coloured flat roofs.
All-black panels have black cells, frames and backing, so they blend in on dark roofs. You pay a little more for the look, with similar output.
Our range runs from 400 W to 590 W. Higher-wattage panels mean fewer panels for the same system, but panels over 500 W are physically larger and often suit commercial roofs better than homes. A 6.6 kW home system is around 15 panels of 440 W.
Tier one is a BloombergNEF list of manufacturers whose panels banks have financed in large solar projects. It points to a big, stable maker, which matters for warranty claims years from now, but it isn't a quality test of an individual panel.
There isn't one best brand. Jinko, Trina, LONGi, AIKO, Canadian Solar and JA Solar all make reliable panels. The right choice depends on your roof space, budget and the look you want, and we recommend one in your quote.
Divide the system size by the panel wattage. With 440 W panels, a 6.6 kW system is around 15 panels, 10 kW around 23 and 13 kW around 30. See typical prices for each size on our residential solar page.

Yes. Larger panels, such as the 500 W-plus ranges from Trina, Canadian Solar and JA Solar, often suit commercial roofs. See commercial solar.
